Helping People Connect

Mobile or landline. Broadband at home or on the move. Business or pleasure. Whatever, wherever, we know people get more out of life, together. That’s why everything we do is about helping people communicate, connect and share. Every day we transmit 43 million calls, and 21 million text messages across our network - endless opportunities to create life-enriching relationships with friends, families and colleagues. As the pace of the industry quickens you’ll find us right up there driving a more exciting, dynamic and connected world.

Exciting / Dynamic

Exciting, yes. Dynamic, yes. But right up there with them in our list of priorities is safety. Every new channel brings with it potential hazards from which our customers need protection. Inappropriate content, virus targets, spam, text bullying all ruin these positive advances in technology. But we’re prepared. We know that with use, comes abuse which is why when we set about developing a positive portfolio of brilliant products, we also created ones that, as importantly, keep our customers safe from harm.

Family Guide

Orange

Day one and Orange customers get info on how to avoid the nasties, whether they’re using their phone or the web. Introducing our new Family Guide – a present to every new joiner and waiting to be picked up from any of our 350 stores nationwide. Tips and advice on data protection and cyberbullying, child safety online and spamming are just some of the features. Pick Orange broadband and you’ll get a content filter, spam filter, virus checkers and a firewall. All before you can say, ‘All this broadband lark’s a bit risky isn’t it?’ And we don’t sell pay as you go mobiles without safeguard filter, that’s just standard.

Safety Website

Orange

So that’s all our new customers feeling all safe and warm. But getting the message out to our existing customers is every bit as important. So this year we re-launched our safety website with tips and tools for parents and young people. In the last two years we’ve focussed on our highest risk group, young people, developing education programmes that raise awareness of text bullying and keeping safe online. These programmes are now up and running in 60% of schools in the UK. There are also our Orange Ambassadors – over 100 Orange employees who visit schools and speak to students about using mobiles and avoiding any internet risks.

Reducing Carbon Footprint

But that was today, we’re working on tomorrow already. Together with our stakeholders (yes, we really do believe that together we can do more) we’re looking at tomorrow’s social landscape to make it as positive, friendly and enjoyable for customers as we can. Protection comes in many guises and the environment deserves attention too. Our motivated workforce is right behind our goal to minimise the impact we have on the environment and it shows.

We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint by 25% by 2010 and to recycling 80% of our waste by 2012. A raft of environmental initiatives launching this year will keep us on track. Our staff told us they wanted to concentrate on community projects rather than a single national charity which is why you’ll find our 13,000 employees fundraising and volunteering for over 20 regional projects across the UK. We’re celebrating our 15th birthday this year. Our belief that everyone is the sum of their relationships and that people are better together is a driving force behind everything we do. With this thought we hope to create a future that excites and engages our customers even more for the next 15 years.
