Alto Atacama Chile

Surrounded and embraced by the Salt Mountain Range and close to the pre- Columbian ruins of Quitor, Alto Atacama offers one of the most astonishing settings in the world. Silence, colors and the rugged texture of the surrounding mountains is the introduction for the Alto Atacama experience. Alto Atacama is located in the fertile Catarpe valley, just 3 kilometers from the San Pedro plaza. The 3.5 hectare property includes a 2 hectare park. The hotel is built in the style of a traditional adobe settlement, complete with llamas and native crops. All elements were carefully designed to integrate with the indigenous building customs of the Likanantay people.

Alto Atacama provides state-of-theart facilities while preserving a natural atmosphere. Guests can enjoy the hotel’s spa, yoga fields, hot springs, wooden decks, swimming pools, an international bar and a cosy common room with a big fireplace. Add to that one of the most impressive views of the Milky Way and you start to get the picture. The decoration is simple yet elegant. All 32 rooms are spacious, decorated with local crafts, and well equipped to soothe your body after an action packed day. Each room has its own private terrace with a great view to enjoy the colors of the valley, take a nap, read a book or simply relax. In line with the Alto Atacama concept, the rooms epitomize simplicity, luxury, tranquillity and space.

The cuisine blends the best of two worlds; the healthy, authentic flavors of Mediterranean food while incorporating local recipes and ingredients. Many of the herbs are found right in the area. Rodrigo, the Chef, is passionate about finding and exploring new flavors, ingredients, and methods. His conceptsare simple, yet merge dedication and taste into style. Try the Socaire potatoes or the healthful quinoa, and indulge in the Rica Rica Gnocchis or the Chañar based sweets. Working closely with local producers ensures freshness, quality and supports the local economy; however, given that Atacama is in a desert, the ingredients which are not found locally such as fruits, beef and seafood are all brought in fresh from prime sources.

Alto Atacama is a place to relax as much as it is a place to seek adventure and knowledge. There is something for everybody to explore, and with 24 different excursions available, guests are sure to be immersed in beautiful Atacama. Indulging in the physical and intellectual strength that each of us has, the various excursions range from physically demanding to very mellow. No matter which path you choose, the sights are impressive.

Each excursion is a journey in itself: float in a salty lagoon (Dead Sea style), visit a geyser field, bike among the red mountains, or watch the sunset in Moon Valley. Cultural journeys are available too, with skilled local guides introducing guest to the fascinating aspects of the traditional culture. Excursions are designed with the philosophy in mind that the World is worth walking, exploring, and perceiving, and we are here to enjoy it.

Alto Atacama’s 6 outdoor pools overlook the beautiful Catarpe valley and its red mountains. Blending simple luxury and nature’s tranquility, their discreet size reflects an emphasis on privacy. An outdoor bar and dining room right in the main pool area allow guests to splash and dine, or simply lay quietly in the sun and enjoy a glass of fine Chilean wine. While guests are encouraged to enjoy the freshness of the water, the hotel is mindful of the preciousness and scarcity of this element: treating the water to maximize use and maintain purity is a priority.

Guests are invited to relax, enjoy, and recharge body and mind in the Spa, fully equipped with Sauna, Turkish bath, Scottish showers, and indoor and outdoor jacuzzis. Alto Atacama strives for every experience to revitalize, uplift and invigorate the body and spirit. A place to relax, start a day full of action, and listen to local stories or simply listen, Atacama is a landscape of dramatic contrasts and extremely slow change. Impressive, rugged, and larger than life, the goal is to embody Atacama, to share its beauty and to achieve its patience, to smile and breathe freely at the sight of the most beautiful desert in the world.
