BioCity Nottingham Ltd is responsible for developing and operating BioCity, which was gifted to Nottingham Trent University by BASF at the end of 2002. BioCity Nottingham Ltd was formed by a consortium of Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham and EMDA.

Facts

 BioCity Nottingham is currently home to 40 on-site businesses and 20 virtual tenants (4 of which are foreign);

 6 of the on-site companies are spin outs from the University of Nottingham and 1 is from the University of Leicester;

 Over 500 jobs have been created or preserved by the BioCity companies since 2003;

 Tenant companies have raised over £27 million of investment since BioCity was formed;

 BioCity offer a molecular and microbiology research hotel as well as a 400MHz NMR. Rental of equipment and lab space

  allows access to highly technical, expensive equipment on a one-off basis;

 The in-house business advisory team is supplemented by experts in legal, IT, IP and marketing;

 The BioCity Germinator provides specialist advice and mentoring to early-stage bioscience companies. A few examples of

  unborn babies get through complicated pregnancies successfully.

 Biocontrol (www.biocontrol-ltd.com) Biocontrol holds a world leading position in the application of bacteriophage technology

  to the control of human disease, targeted at markets where current chemical drugs are failing or ineffective.

 RegenTec (www.regentec.net) RegenTec is an independent research company working within the emerging field of tissue

  engineering.

 R5 Pharmaceuticals (www.r5pharma.com) R5 Pharmaceuticals provides a unique proposition to pharmaceutical, biotech

  and nutraceutical companies which outsource the development, manufacture and training requirements associated with new

  product development. The facility is one of the few contract clean rooms in Europe to develop and manufacture clinical

  materials including tablets, capsules and injectables for phase I and II clinical trials.
