The art and culture of Chile is rich and diverse, dating back to the Conquistadores in Latin America. Famous contributors to Chile’s art and literature include Nobel Prize poets Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral.

Pablo Neruda

 Pablo Neruda is considered one of the greatest and most influential poets of the 20th century, winning the Nobel Prize for literature in 1971. The Pablo Neruda Foundation, founded in 1986, is dedicates to preserving the heritage of this poet, which represents a cultural legacy of immeasurable value. After turning 50 years old, Neruda donated his library to the University of Chile, and shortly before his death, he wrote plans into his will establishing his desire to create the Foundation. Since then, the Foundation has focused on preserving, maintaining and restoring the three House Museums: La Chascona in Santiago, the central coast house on Isla Negra and La Sebastiana in Valparaíso. These houses which were an important interest in the life of Neruda are open to the public since 1992 and attract some 250,000 visitors a year. At the same time, the Foundation is the beneficiary of the copyrights for Neruda’s, watching over his work and maintaining a library which in addition to housing the private collection of the poet, is open for the experts and students of his poetry.

Pablo Neruda es considerado una de los más grandes e influyentes poetas del siglo XX, ganando el premio Nobel de literatura en el año 1971. La Fundación Pablo Neruda, fundada en 1986, se ha dedicado a preservar el patrimonio del poeta, que representa una herencia cultural de valor inestimableAl cumplir sus 50 años, Neruda donó su biblioteca a la Universidad de Chile y poco antes de morir, redactó un proyecto de testamento en que establece su voluntad de crear la Fundación. Desde luego, La Fundación se enfoca en preservar, mantener y restaurar las tres Casas Museo, La Chascona, en Santiago, Isla Negra en el litoral central, y La Sebastiana, en Valparaíso. Estas casas que fue un interés importante en la vida de Neruda, están abiertas al público desde 1992 y anualmente reciben la visita de250.000 personas al año. Al mismo tiempo, la Fundación que es heredera de los derechos de autor de Pablo Neruda, vela por sus publicaciones y mantiene una biblioteca abierta a los especialistas y estudiosos de su poesía, que contiene la biblioteca privada del poeta.

Catalina Prado

The young and distinguished Chilean artist Catalina Prado Browne casts herself in strength and intensity. Her artistic trajectory shows an interesting and striking evolution throughout her career. Her creative path illustrates an enriching and contrasting variation in her style, colors and shapes, in her use of canvas, aluminum, bronze and wood, and with themes which deeply amaze and move those who have the opportunity to experience her art. Landscapes full of green backgrounds; mysterious scenes which compel a sensitive eye to unravel them; animals, fruits and geometric figures which intermingle with fire; graphic designs and labyrinths with encrypted messages based on one another. Catalina Prado was born in Chile in 1970 and has a degree in Art from the Pontific Catholic University of Chile. Her work is displayed in some of the most important galleries in Chile and has been exhibited in New York and Washington DC. Much of work can be seen on her website.

La joven y reconocida artista chilena Catalina Prado Browne se proyecta con mucha fuerza e intensidad. Su trayectoria artística muestra una interesante y llamativa evolución visible a través de sus obras a lo largo del tiempo. En su camino de creación los cambios han sido enriquecedores y contrastantes, en colores y formas, en el uso del lienzo, aluminio, bronce y madera y con temáticas que asombran y emocionan profundamente a quienes tienen la oportunidad de conocer su arte. Paisajes de fondo llenos de verde, poblados de misterio que el ojo sensible persevera en desentrañar. Animales, frutas y figuras geométricas que se entremezclan con el fuego, grafismos y laberintos con mensajes encriptados que se funden entre ellos. Catalina Prado nació en Chile en 1970 y se licenció en Artes en 1993, mención pintura en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Teatro Municipal De Santiago

For more than 150 years, opera, dance and theater have had the privilege of an exceptional stage to display and make known the brilliance of their actors and performers, coming from the most diverse places and times. The Municipal Theater of Santiago has become the civic center of the capital city and the cultural center of Chile. Since its inauguration in 1857 until today, the audience of the Municipal Theater of Santiago has been delighted with their performing groups – The Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago, the Municipal Theater Choir, and the Santiago Ballet – along with the some of the greatest national and international figures.

Durante más de 150 años, la ópera, la danza y el teatro han contado con un escenario privilegiado para desplegarse y dar a conocer el genio de sus autores e intérpretesprovenientes de los más diversos lugares y tiempos. El Teatro Municipal de Santiago se erige en el centro cívico de la capital y en el centro de Chile, orgulloso de poder exhibir una trayectoria plena de actividad y con la satisfacción de haber sabido adaptarse a los tiempos y llevar a chilenos y extranjeros las más grandes obras de la cultura musical y artística mundial. Desde su inauguración, en 1857, hasta hoy la audiencia del Teatro Municipal de Santiago se ha deleitado con sus Cuerpos Artísticos – Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago, Coro del Teatro Municipal y Ballet de Santiago -, junto con grandes fi guras nacionales e internacionales.
