This region is named after the innumerable navigable rivers that crisscross the terrain, created eons ago as water filled the scratch marks left behind by lumbering glaciers.

Esta región le hace el honor a su nombre debido a la existencia de innumerables ríos navegables que atraviesan la región, los cuales surgen debido a la acción erosiva de los glaciares.

Los Ríos Region

Founded on the banks of the wide Calle- Calle River in 1552 and long considered a strategic port, This region of 18,429.5 km2 encompasses several important waterways and a number of major lakes. The total regional population is 356,396, and the capital city of Valdivia is a busy, thriving university town full of cultural life and events. The regional economy centers around forestry, agricultural products, special-interest tourism and services including information and communications technology, universities and research centers, film locations, and sailing. The export industry is led by wood, beef and dairy products. Valdivia’s rich historical heritage is preserved at places such as the Lake Ranco Archaelogical Museum. Local attractions include a striking mesa formation in Alfonso Brandt Park that provides an extraordinary view of Lake Ranco and its thirteen islands. Distinguished for its wildlife and natural resources, the Valdivian temperate rainforest is flourishing thanks to the constant rain that epitomizes the region.

Región de Los Ríos

Fundada en 1552 a lado del río Calle- Calle, Los Ríos era considerada un puerto estratégico. Con una superficie de 18.429 km2, la región comprende varios cursos de agua navegables y lagos importantes. La población regional es de 356.396 habitantes y Valdivia, capital de la región, es una ciudad universitaria, llena de vida y actividad cultural.

La Región centra su actividad productiva en el área forestal, agroindustria, el turismo de interés especiales, y en el área de servicios de tecnologías de información, universidades y centros de investigación, localizaciones cinematográficas y de embarcaciones. Entre las exportaciones principales se destacan productos de madera, carne y lácteos.

Parte de las riquezas patrimoniales de la zona son el Museo Arqueológico del Lago Ranco. Además, se ubica una meseta denominada Piedra Mesa Parque Alfonso Brandt, que ofrece una de las vistas más hermosas del lago Ranco y sus trece islas.

Con abundantes recursos naturales, la selva valdiviana alberga especies de gran belleza, las que crecen regadas por el clima templado lluvioso.
