Sport of Kings

There are numerous private clubs in Singapore. However, there is only one polo club.

Singapore Polo Club

A Royal Sport, A Royal Club

Founded in 1886 by the officers of the 1st Battalion, King’s Own Regiment, the Singapore Polo Club is the only place where one can partake in the “Sport of Kings”.

Nestled amidst the lush, tropical greenery of Mount Pleasant Road, polo is played weekly throughout the year (except in the months of December to February). Club chukkas are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 4.30pm.

A Horse Riding Culture

Every month club tournaments are held. At present, there are three major international events. Members can keep their pony in a club stable or, alternatively, lease a pony from the club. In addition to polo, the Club is also a centre for other equestrian activities. The Club has a very active riding section, including basic riding, dressage and show jumping at various levels. Alternatively, riders can enjoy the simple pleasure of exploring the jungle trails adjacent to the club on horseback. There is also a covered arena for indoor riding and events. The arena boasts a mezzanine viewing gallery, with premium views for spectators of indoor equestrian events and the polo field.

If you want to learn to ride, there is no better place than the Singapore Polo Club. The Club has fully-equipped facilities and a dedicated staff of certified teaching professionals, both local and international. Group, private and semi-private lessons are available, and school horses are matched to the ability of the rider. Once a student masters the basics of riding, he or she may opt to learn the elegance of dressage; the thrill of showjumping; or the fast pace of polo.

Full Facilities

As a premier social institution, the Singapore Polo Club also has all of the facilities expected of a private club: gymnasium, spa, swimming pool, tennis courts, squash court, bar and three recognised food & beverage outlets. The Mountbatten Room serves exquisite French cuisine and has a purpose built wine cellar; the Verandah serves local delicacies to diners overlooking the polo field; and the Poolside Grill offers a selection of pizzas, pastas and salads.

The spa, dining facilities and equestrianthemed retail shop are open to both members and non-members of the Club. The Singapore Polo Club is a welcome relief to the pace of life in this thriving city. Once you are ensconced in its green embrace, you will be hesitant to return to the noisy shopping malls, frenetic business district or bustling heartlands.
