Thanying Restaurant, Singapore

Authentic Royal Thai Cuisine

Renowned for its superb Thai cuisine and impeccable service, the awardwinning Thanying Restaurant, an Amara Group restaurant, has garnered a strong reputation for serving Royal Thai food in Singapore. It’s thus no surprise that the restaurant has also gained a loyal following of local and foreign dignitaries.

Amara Singapore in the heart of the Central Business District has been home to the flagship Thanying Restaurant since 1988 and remains Singapore’s highest benchmark in authentic Thai cuisine to this day. The second outlet, meanwhile, is nestled prettily at Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa, on the leisure island of Sentosa. Visitors are welcomed by swaying palm trees and the stylishly contemporary restaurant features a predominantly white theme with touches of warm wooden hues in the choice of furniture and polished floor. With exposed wooden rafters and a thatched roof, the interior reminds patrons of the restaurant’s original roots in the tropics yet with a contemporary twist. Dine outside under the stars in Thanying’s courtyard or for more privacy, opt for one of the two private dining rooms available.

Truly Thai

Thanying’s reputation precedes itself since the consultant chef is none other than celebrity chef Khun Chalie Amatyakul who is best known for setting up the famed Thai Cooking School at the legendary Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. The numerous years of experience, skills and knowledge acquired over the years shows in the delightful menu of contemporary Royal Thai delicacies.

As guests savour signature dishes like Miang Khum, Tom Yam Goong and Tom Poe, they are treated to a mouthful of different flavours complemented by fragrances that serve to tantalise their tastebuds further. Miang Khum features an abundance of traditional Thai flavours like peanuts, shrimp, lime, herbs, chillies and toasted coconut, topped off with a dollop of tamarind sauce and wrapped in fresh betel leaves.

Following the assortment of wellloved flavours of Thailand, tuck into what may be the most popular dish outside the country – Tom Yam Goong. The clear spicy prawn soup is certainly Thanying’s crown jewel. The clear broth stands out from most Tom Yams. Light yet chockfull of intense flavours, the essence of the kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass and prawn is allowed to shine through, striking the delicate balance between sour and spicy notes.

Be sure to savour another hot favourite – the 200-year-old recipe for Tom Poe, a soup comprising snapper fish and heart of coconut.

The highlight of every meal is usually the dessert and at Thanying, this is no exception. Indulge in an array of sweets from the coconut custard tarts to the candied bananas and steamed tapioca. Specially crafted by chefs that specialise in these desserts, even the fresh fruits are expertly and artistically carved to delight customers.

For authentic Royal Thai cuisine of unrivalled quality, Thanying will certainly impress the most sophisticated of palates.
