In 1983, (HRH) Prince Khaled Bin Sultan established a 1680 hectare farm, located 95 km southwest of Riyadh, transforming it into an oasis dedicated to Arabian Horses, Wildlife Reserve and Agribusiness. Since then Al Khalediah Farm has not only emerged as a stronghold of pure Arabian horses’ production, winning accolades in national and international championships, it has given birth to the annual Arabian Horse Festival, held since January 2008.
Aside from being an event that now graces Riyadh’s annual social calendar, welcoming guests and equestrian enthusiasts from worldwide, this ‘A’ class Festival is a celebration of the Arabian horse, initiated to foster the equestrian disciplines in which this extraordinary animal competes.
Held annually for five consecutive days under the patronage of HRH, Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin AbdulAziz Al Saud , Al Khalediah Farm, the headquarters of His Highness’s farms in Tebrak city, come alive with equestrian disciplines that reflect the significance of the Arabian horse as integral to the nation’s history. There is an auction of exceptional purebred Arabian horses on the first day; a racing display of Arabian racehorses on the second; while the final three days showcase the acme of the Festival, a three day International Arabian Horse Show exhibiting the magnificence of these animals.
| An avid horse lover, HRH is the mastermind of Al Khalediah. By creating and managing Al Khalediah Stables (AKS), he is the ultimate engineer of the farm’s victories, making Al Khalediah a famous stud, with a successful breeding programme, an undisputed leader in the Arabian horse world.
Besides the jumping and carriage horses raised and trained at AKS, attention is given to the preservation and breeding of pure desert Arabian horses. The most significant part is acheived through the thoroughbred racing horses, breeding and showing of purebred Arabian horses, recognised as the most appealing species in the world.
The AKS team competes in all major purebred Arabian Horse shows in the Middle East and Europe, winning championship titles - several in Saudi Arabia as well as Middle East, International and World Champion

titles. It is only a few years ago that AKS started to acquire these elite animals and initiating an in-house breeding programme. Through dedication, AKS has added value to the gamut of specialist shows and events, giving recognition to the Arabian Peninsula and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - the desert homelands from where this prized animal originated and now returns.
Another treasure of AKS is the new ‘HRH Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Race Track’ built in 2004, now ready to host and train racing horses. Built to international standards, the track is strategically located inside the farm. Through the construction of this track, AKS - that has competed in flat races and is represented in the AKS blackand- white racing colours - is now a fully fledged Equestrian Farm with superb capabilities to introduce racing champions to the public.
Through dedicated and accredited auctions, races and quality equine events, the Al Khalediah Festival has managed to do what others have tried in the past: to foster a loyal following within society and to engender appreciation for the incredible Arabian horse in its homeland - the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia.
Playing a vital role in the evolution of the Arabian culture and held in high esteem by those who participate in this amazing animal’s equestrian world, the Al Khalediah Arabian Horse Festival – Arabian Horse Racing will take place on Tuesday the 26th of January 2010 at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Race Track at Al Khalediah Farm, Tebrak, 90km out of Riyadh on the road to Makkah.
