The Mantis Journey began in 1992, with the opening of Shamwari Game Reserve and founded by Adrian Gardiner. Although the name, “Mantis” as the mother brand was only introduced in the year 2000.

The Group consists of Boutique Hotels, Game Reserves, Eco Experiences, luxury yachts and unforgettable rail journeys. Mantis also comprises of five other divisions, namely Hospitality, Development, Wildlife, Marketing and Education. The Mantis Group has it’s origins in South Africa and now has a presence in the UK, France, Italy, The Americas, Antarctica and many other countries in Africa. Today the portfolio comprises of over 40 properties across the globe.

 

The Mantis group affords their clients, once in a lifetime experiences where one can enjoy the wonders of the World through many of their unique itineraries. Guests can enjoy the North and South Pole, Penguins and Polar bears. A hike to see the endangered Mountain Gorillas and then Jane Goodall’s famed chimps, all on offer as part of the same collection. One can Dive the awesome Galapagos in the morning and be stargazing in Patagonia by evening. Travel further afield to the Southern most tip of Africa, in search of the only free roaming White Lions or experience 15th Century castles in the Cotswolds. Or simply keep South as you marvel at the Parisian Architecture of Buenos Aires and a few days later indulge in a glass of beautiful local South Africa wine on the top of Table Mountain.

 

Mantis has a wealth of expertise in managing boutique hotels and game reserves, offering effective operational and management services to the establishments under its umbrella.

 

 

Mantis makes use of their experience in developing properties from Greenfield stages and offers clients with a similar vision, the opportunity to specify and select the type of functional accommodation they would like to develop and from this Mantis manages and plans the entire process from the initial stages of development to completion.

 

Developments currently underway and successfully completed globally, include the redevelopment of the Plantation Club in the Seychelles, Delaire Boutique Hotel and Winery in Stellenbosch, Ellenborough Park Boutique Hotel & Spa in Cheltenham in the UK and Lilliesleaf Hotel in Rivonia, Johannesburg. There are also further development opportunities across Africa which Mantis is currently negotiating.

 

Nurturing nature today for tomorrow is a strong mantra within the Wildlife team of the Mantis Group. Operating with one of the most sophisticated and well equipped conservation and wildlife departments in the country and that’s evident by the fact that Mantis consults and assists in the development and re wilding of vast tracks of land globally. The conservation teams have undertaken projects in Scotland, Morocco, The Middle East, Africa and more recently The Wilds in the USA.

“Advertising says to people, ‘Here’s what we’ve got. Here’s what it will do for you. Here’s how to get it ” with this in mind Mantis has appointed marketing offices and top public relationships representatives around the world, providing an international marketing footprint to all its members.

 

Through our Mantis Education platform Mantis has created formal relationships with the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa, Stenden University in the Netherlands and Johnson and Wales University in the USA.

 

As part of Mantis’ growth strategy we know, that as a group we cannot act independently and thus we have aligned ourselves with key organizations which include the world acclaimed Born Free Foundation, The Wilderness Foundation and America’s top Wildlife ambassador and TV personality, Jack Hanna.

 

 

At Mantis, our underlying philosophy is to conserve a vanishing way of life. With this as our foundation, The Mantis Group practices responsible and ecologically sensitive development, supporting the local environment through community development projects and conservation of wildlife and natural resources.
