Cape Town – The World Trade Center Cape Town played host to a high level delegation from Tanzania on Wednesday 4th May, led by HE Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete - President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

HE Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has embraced the World Trade Center initiative of establishing an Iconic World Trade Center in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, after the official announcement in Dar es Salaam on 11th February 2011, to the government, private sector, community leaders and to the media.

The establishment of a World Trade Center in Dar es Salaam and the immense benefits to the region where it will be located has served as a catalyst for HE Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete to visit and experience the World Trade Center Cape Town in action, as an indication of the Tanzanian Government’s support.

The World Trade Center Cape Town launched in March 2011 and is fully operational providing the following services: trade promotions, assistance to clinch trade transactions, import and export management, travel and accommodation services, organising international contact and networking opportunities for business people, strategic project advisory, facilitation & consulting services as well as office services.  These form part of a comprehensive and centralised range of services provided by such a centre to businesses in the region and that are focused specifically on the promotion of trade.

Through membership of the World Trade Centers Association based in New York, the World Trade Center in Cape Town and Dar es Salaam will provide the local business community with access to a global network of businesses in 334 cities in more than 100 countries with linkage to more than a million business leaders.

While the focus is on trade with the rest of the world and especially Africa, the initiative also holds great benefits for the region where the World Trade Centers are established.

HE Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has vowed his government’s support and commitment for this initiative in order to increase the value of trade between the East African Community and the 13 sub-Saharan African countries involved in the World Trade Center sub-Saharan Africa initiative through each of the regional World Trade Centers in this vast continent.
